Olga Wisinger-Florian (Vienna 1844 - Grafenegg, Lower Austria 1926)
At first a pianist, Olga Wisinger-Florian turned to painting fairly late, at age 30. From 1874 on she was a disciple of the landscape painter Melchior Fritsch, of August Schaeffer and Emil-Jakob Schindler, considered a so-called "Stimmungsimpressionist" (mood impressionist). Together with her teachers and co-disciples Marie Egner and Carl Moll, Olga Wiesinger-Florian went on study trips to Lundenburg and Goisern.
From 1881 on the artist participated in the yearly exhibitions of the Vienna Kuenstlerhaus. She went on study trips to Dalmatia and Montenegro, Italy, Paris and to the world exhibition in Chicago (1893). She participated in numerous exhibitions. Famous people such as the emperor Franz Josef I bought her paintings. Wiesinger-Florian was awarded several prizes, for instance the "Mention honorable" in Paris and London (1888, 1891).
Olga Wisinger-Florian was president of an association of Austrian women writers and painters and was committed to sociopolitical issues. While her early paintings cleary bear traces of Emil-Jakob Schindlers influence, she later distinguishes herself by the use of strong, expressive colours. Olga Wisinger-Florian typically painted flower motifs and landscapes.
